We went back to the basics when looking for brands to help you elevate your everyday wardrobe. While doing so, we couldn’t help but gawk over the soft and elegant pieces of Charleston-based brand, Vincent James Designs. Because, let’s get real — clothing should be multi-purpose. And of course, nothing beats being able to run to a dinner date straight from work without feeling like you need get your life in check. Or being able to go from mom’s soccer game to girls night out with a simple addition of a cute fur coat. Vincent James Designs has curated a seamless collection of basics that you can wear time and time again without feeling pressured to change your look completely. Each and every piece is designed to forget the constraints of time and societal fashion standards — instead, the focus is on function, comfort and absolutely adorable basics! “Lots of natural colors and fabrics, light, airy images but with just enough edge. I recently moved from Chicago to Charleston and found that my wardrobe was missing some lighter, flowy pieces but I’ll always love black!” Says founder Heather Sullivan when asked what was on her moodboard for this collection. She mentions that as a mother, things can get a little hectic — therefore this collection was also inspired by her desire to feel cute and comfortable while getting the job done. That’s what we call #ladyboss. And you wanna know the best part? Each piece can be worn alone or elevated with a simple accessory or layer — so you can go from “I’m doing work at a coffee shop” to “I’m headed to a bitchin’ cocktail party” with ease and simplicity — just the way we like it.
Oh, and let’s not forget they are totally killing it in the sustainability realm — this collection was designed and created using merino wool which is all sourced and milled sustainably from New Zealand to Italy. Additional fabrics of this collection are made using natural fibers like organic cotton, hemp and tencel. “I’m currently working on sourcing fabrics that are grown and milled in the US. It’s a work in progress but there are people making great strides in this area and it’s a huge goal for Vincent James to source as much from home as possible.” Sullivan tells HOKU.
