Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? How do you like to express yourself through art?
I am a multimedia artist, born and raised on Maui, Hawai’i currently studying illustration at University of Arts London. My practice is influenced by overtones of simple emotions translated visually into a vocabulary via different modes of expression.
I feel like art can be a catalyst for change using universal expression, art has no language or agenda besides to show the message that the artist is trying to communicate to a wider audience, in this sense I think my art has a way of speaking to peoples senses, which can be powerful.
My work is inspired by everyday life and the appeal of the ordinary.
Our third issue is focused on the concept of coexistence – the idea that need to come together and learn to peacefully coexist with each other and with the environment. How does your art reflect this? How do you advocate for change through your art?
The fact that art is a universal language is powerful in that facilitating a conversation based on a cohesive rhetoric has more weight than a conversation that is divided by beliefs. Art is a remedy to this division especially in terms of environmental concerns.
I think art has the power to evoke change, based on the artists intention, which if were lucky, are informed :)
What are your goals as an artist?
My goals as an artist is to create a community that reflects a space not yet responded to by the overall community, I want to create a publishing house that is independent and able to produce works that might not appeal to the majority.
