Ladies, tell me not, we all have that one fantasy where we’re sitting on a balcony sipping on a glass of wine in buttery soft silk dress. Your worries are dim as is the sunset, and you lose yourself in the comfort of your own tiny apartment. Or…is that just me? Wherever our mind takes us, there’s no denying one thing: We all want that goddamn silk dress.

As the industry becomes more overwhelmed with a constant pressure to offer fast fashion, we often see a rise in the use of chemical solvents, toxic dyes and synthetic fibers. Silk on the other hand is a natural fabric with the ability to make anyone feel like royalty. It’s known for being one of the most illustrious, elegant and sustainable fabrics out there, but what if we told you it could get even better?

We all know the struggle of checking our pit stains on our silk cami’s after a night out or spilling coffee rushing off the subway…and come on, WHO has the budget to send clothes off to the dry cleaners. The art of stain removal requires a level of patience we just don’t have time for! It’s not always easy or convenient choosing a silk alternative for a GNO. Lucky for us, NY-based lady boss Nicole Rattner has taken our favorite fabric to the next level with her sustainable machine-washable silk brand, SOURCERY LABEL. That’s right, we said it – machine. washable.

Sourcery Label is an innovative, modern and ultra-sexy approach to combat the rise in toxic synthetic fabrics that plague the fashion industry today.  “To me, ‘sustainable fashion’ means making choices that start to create a market for cleaner, healthier practices.  I think if you are going to create new garments, you have a responsibility to design them consciously, and demand that they are made in a way that will truly start to reduce our footprint.” Rattner tells HOKU. And that’s exactly what she did.

Rattner mastered the art of creating effortless silhouettes, and on top of that she involved herself in every step of her supply chain to make sure that Sourcery’s silk garments are made with 100% naturally sourced silk and certified non-toxic dyes. “It’s not just picking a natural fiber instead of a synthetic one.  It’s also how it’s grown (with or without pesticides?) and how it’s processed (with just water or with chemical solvents?) and how its dyed (with certified non-toxic dyes or ones that have unknown and potentially hazardous chemicals in them?).”

And we’re not done yet. Rattner has taken a step further in making her pieces healthier and more sustainable by eliminating the need / costs of dry cleaning and exposure to PERC – a known carcinogen and dry cleaning solvent. “Once I realized that this wasn’t just about sustainability for the planet, but that it is also about our own health and wellness, I became really motivated. The idea of a super-clean, low-impact washable silk became our focus.”

And let’s not forget super cute! Sourcery Label’s latest collection finds inspiration from natural techniques, textures and stones such as ‘Rose Quartz’ and ‘Black Marble”. Each garment is made and created consciously to ensure that every woman feels empowered and beautiful. From elegant blouses that tell everyone you mean business, to slipdresses that are made for tipsy wine nights overlooking Paris, Sourcery Label has got you covered.
