We Like Soft Things...
Ridiculously soft and ridiculously sustainable. We’re bringing back varsity blues and soft nostalgia with Marine Layer.
What’s your favorite high school memory? Was it that one time your soon-to-be bestfriend accidentally gave you edibles before an assembly? Or maybe it was the moment your high school crush became your boyfriend and kissed you in the quad for the first time—like, in front of everyone! (True story) Something about high school has the power to make anyone feel nostalgic. Isn’t it crazy how memories of the past resurface unexpectedly? Like little gifts from your mind. And while I admit, life is much more exciting now – I can’t deny that part of me misses the softness of high school. The flexibility, the ease, oh and having zero responsibility.
But as we grow older, we begin to crave adventure and new beginnings. Change becomes enlightening and we start to focus on creating much, much cooler lives for ourselves.. But, in light of the soft nostalgic feeling of remembering a younger you, we’d like to embrace softness in more ways than one. This year, we’re investing in being a little bit softer with ourselves and the environment – kinder, more caring. In the way our high school selves would’ve looked up to. And considering being softer is a common theme for this year, we went on a hunt to find the softest of the soft -- no, we’re not talking “Oh, that’s nice” we’re talking “Bro lemme borrow that and never give it back.” During our journey to softness, we discovered Marine Layer, a San Francisco based brand built on making incredibly soft + sustainable pieces for the cool and collected risk taker. Because it’s important to be comfortable while going out of your comfort zone -- life’s just better that way.
So now, let’s get to the good stuff. Marine Layer has focused its core on creating absurdly soft pieces that embody everything we’re preaching for the new year. “We've custom developed over 100 fabrics and we try to maximize our use of fabrics that have the least amount of environmental impact. We use a lot of TENCEL® Lyocell, Supima Cotton, Modal (MicroModal), Recycled Polyester, Upcycled Cotton. Sustainability as a whole is a huge priority to us which is one of the main reasons we started the Re-Spun Program. We're providing a service for the community to get involved from the beginning by donating their old shirts to be respun into new 100% recycled fabric.” Can we get a hell yes for this initiative?! Oh, and that’s not all – they too know how to bring back feelings of nostalgia. With their most recent Re-Spun line, Marine Layer evokes a retro varsity vibe that undeniably brings back feelings of high school in terms of style and color. “We felt it was fitting to have a vintage vibe because we're taking old shirts and turning them into new ones. There's a sense of poetry in the fact that we're giving old tees new life.” Talk about a connection. With Marine Layer, you’re getting the entire package – soft clothes for your body and even softer initiatives for the environment. That what we like to call, a win win.
Here’s a mini visual journal from our afterschool sesh with their out-of-this world soft re-spun line – and if you’re a soft-lover yourself, keep an eye out for our giveaway (Jacket Included). 😉
